What Drives the Price
Four things move the price of a handloom silk saree more than anything else: silk type (pure mulberry silk costs considerably more than a soft silk blend), zari type and density (pure zari raises both material cost and loom time), weave complexity (korvai and interlocked border construction take longer), and weight (more silk and zari simply means more raw material).
What You Get at Each Level
At the more accessible end you will find soft silks and value-tier Dharmavaram designs – lighter, easier to wear, slimmer borders. In the middle sit semi Kanchipattu and standard temple-border sarees. At the upper end are pure Kanchipattu and bridal pattu sarees with pure zari and heavier pallus.
Why Similar-Looking Sarees Differ in Price
Two sarees can look alike in a photograph and differ meaningfully in price because of what is not visible: whether the zari is pure, how the border is joined to the body, and how many grams of silk went into it.
