What Is a Parrot Design Pattu Saree?

A parrot design pattu saree is a silk pattu saree woven with parrot motifs, usually running along the border and repeated through the pallu. The parrot is a long-standing auspicious motif in South Indian handloom weaving, alongside peacocks, elephants and temple arches.

Where the Motif Appears

Parrot motifs are most often woven into the border and pallu, sometimes paired with floral vines. On heavier pattu sarees the motif is worked in denser zari for occasion wear.

Choosing a Parrot Design Saree
